The XIV International Conference-Exhibition
“Aluminium of Siberia-2008”
was held in Krasnoyarsk on September 10-12, 2008.


In total 532 participants from 23 countries attended the Conference, including 80 foreign experts representing 56 companies; 452 participants represented 102 enterprises of the aluminium industry of Russia and CIS, including aluminium plants, metallurgical and processing enterprises, electrode and alumina plants, R&D and designing institutes and universities.

CONFERENCE

A total of 116 reports were presented at the following sections:
1. Aluminium Reduction Technology,
2. Alumina Production,
3. Casting and Secondary Processing,
4. Carbon Materials,
5. Health, Safety & Environment, Wastes Recycling,
6. Stand Section.

Round-Table Discussion of A. Krasovitsky (UC RUSAL, Russia) and S. Dranishnikov (SFU, Russia) was held. Topic: «Improvement of Industrial Systems».

The 4th International Soderberg Club organized by UC RUSAL was held during the Conference.

AREVA T&D – RUSAL Electro Engineering JV organized “Electrical installation in Aluminium production” Seminar, after which the opening of Manufacturing plant to place.

EXHIBITION

65 companies participated in the Exhibition. The majority of the participants attend the Exhibition every year, stressing on great benefits resulting from cooperation with Russian enterprises and foreign companies.

AWARDS

During the closure of the Conference after summarizing the results the participants were awarded with Honorary Diplomas in the following nominations:

«THE BEST REPORT» nomination in the «ALUMINIUM REDUCTION TECHNOLOGY» section:
1. Loig Rivoaland (Carbone Savoie Research & Development, France) for the report “The Graphitic grade: a performing but too often unknown solution for cathodes linings”.
2. Asbjorn Solheim and Egil Skybakmoen (SINTEF Materials and Chemistry, Norway) for the report “Deterioration of the bottom lining in aluminium reduction cells”.
3. Oleg sluchenkov (SFU, Russia) for the report “Interaction between the cathode metal velocity field and cell sludge on 300 kA amperage”.

«THE BEST REPORT» nomination in the «CASTING AND SECONDARY ALUMINIUM PRODUCTION» section:
1. Simon Taberham (TAB-Refractory Construction&Maintenance, UK) for the report “Increased aluminium production through enhanced refractory linings and maintenance”.
2. Chris Emes (Mechatherm International Ltd, UK) for the report “Aluminium tilting furnaces design”.

«THE BEST REPORT» nomination in the «HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT, WASTES RECYCLING» section:
Zinaida Pai (Institute of Catalysis, SB RAS, Russia) for the report “Desulfurization methods of flue process gases”.

«THE BEST REPORT» nomination in the «ALUMINA PRODUCTION» section:
Vladimir Ronkin (NPP Mashprom CJSC, Russia) for the report “Determination of heat losses in vaporizers with descending film”.

«THE BEST BOOTH» nomination:
1st Place – Festo-RF Ltd. (Russia)
2nd Place – HPS Engineering Ltd. (Russia)
3rd Place – SMC Pneumatic LLC (Russia)
